New Research Shows The Kids' Healthy Food Battle Begins At Home

WELLINGTON, July 30 (Bernama) -- A new research from New Zealand's University of Otago suggests that healthy food battle among children should begin from home, reports China's Xinhua news agency on Friday.

In a study published in the journal Public Health Nutrition, New Zealand Department of Human Nutrition researchers said that the family environment and food provided from home, is the anchor of nutrition for New Zealand children.

The results also suggested that parents should take more responsibilities in preparing their children's food choices.

Co-author Winsome Parnell said the research found that children's average daily cholestrol intake was higher because they were twice as likely to eat hot chips on their days off.

However, Parnell admitted that there was no "quick fix" in improving children's diets, and need better access to healthier food.

The research was based on interviews with 2,572 children aged between five and 14.
